REVIEW OF TOY FAIR 2009
Saturday, 15th August, Sunday 16th August, 2009
The Bowes Railway museum is the world's only operational preserved standard gauge rope hauled railway and in August 2009 we hosted our second toy and train collectors' fair at the museum. Along with an estimated 40+ trade tables there were layouts in OO and O gauge as well as impressive displays from the North East Meccano Society and North East Diecast Collectors' Club. Outside attractions included trade stands and beer tent where visitors sampled real ales from local suppliers. Brake vans rides were available at a small charge.
Opened in 1826, the railway has all the atmosphere and character linked with the North East Coal industry and coupled with the bustle of one of today's toy fair events proved to be an excellent experience for all involved.
Please note: The surface area of the museum can be uneven and manoeverability of wheelchairs and push chairs can be difficult but not impossible in some areas. We regret this cannot be helped due to the nature of the museum and the old buildings.
